Workers in retail, hospitality, and many other industries have been left reeling by an unprecedented assault on their take home pay. These industries are among the lowest paid in the entire country, and now those workers will have to make do with less. The changes to the minimum wage likely won’t be enough to make up the difference. The Morrison government should have taken one look at the Fair Work Commission decision and rejected it – instead he decided to slash the pay of workers around the country.
While visiting Longman, Bill Shorten committed Labor to reversing the changes to penalty rates once we take office again. My staff and I have heard from many constituents about how these changes will hurt them – and I fully support rolling back the cuts too.
I will always stand up for working people.
